The Rio games may be over, but you still have time!

Did you have a chance to catch some of the Olympic action from Rio? I loved watching the athletes compete, and know how much hard work and time they put into their training to get to the top. I loved watching gymnast Simone Biles perform her floor exercises--she was nearly perfect!

How are your Summer Reading Olympics? Did you make the time to compete in a few events? You have two weeks left to add a few more to your list. How about Synchronized Swimming or Table Tennis? Talk to your parents about their favorite books as children and read one. Both events are fun.

And if you haven't tried Gymnastics yet, I hope you will give it a go---maybe you can have someone snap a photo of you while reading on one foot!

Enjoy these last few weeks, as our Summer Reading Olympics wind down.

Drake Olympic Readers

What a fun afternoon we had on Monday! Summer readers from the Drake building shared what they have been reading, heard a story from Mr. Wilson, crafted their own Olympic Torch and tried their hand at some book-inspired games. We met some new students (welcome Miles and Daniella!) and saw old friends.

Great reading in the forecast

What a hot weekend this is going to be. This is my thermometer right now, in the shade! It's just too hot for me to do anything fun outside, so I have found a cool spot in front of the fan with my book. I hope you are staying cool by doing some reading, too!

Off to a good start

Nothing like a week at the beach to soothe you into summertime! I brought a big bag of books with me (don't leave home without your big bag of books!) and completed the Pentathlon event. I'm working on Cycling, and have logged in 15 days in a row of reading for at least 20 minutes.

I have discovered the joys of reading the entire Elephant and Piggie series to a toddler, over and over again. I enjoyed Go for the Goal by Fred Bowen, an MCBA choice and a look at what it means to be a good sport and Tall Story by Candace Gorley, Mr. Wilson's Upper School Sumer Book Club Choice.
How are you doing?  What are you reading? I look forward to talking books with you at the Olympic Village event for your building.

Read Four

Studies show that kids who read just four books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall. Each of us can read four and so much more!
Build that reading muscle!
